Adam Liter, Karthik Durvasula, and I have been working on a project which attempts to quantify biases in academia. Obviously, many biases cannot be quantified, and of those that can be, we had to start small. We chose to look at gender proportions at various stages of the academic career: from undergrads through faculty. We also looked at proportions of invited speakers at conferences, the idea being that the people who are invited are those who have achieved the most recognition for their successes in their field. The results and data are available on our website.
